Tasked to think of a classic piece of furniture – a design ‘icon’ if you will – a high percentage of people, experts and otherwise (knowingly or not), would likely choose something by Vitra.
Whether it’s an Eames lounger, a Noguchi coffee table, a Panton chair or even some of the more obscure items in the Swiss manufacturer’s extensive portfolio, Vitra has been in the business of producing design classics since it was founded in 1950. But classics were not always classics - you can’t set out to produce an icon.
