You know what happened at the Oscars. Now it's time to see the results of the CotYs, the 2018 Contractor of the Year awards from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

Portland area builders racked up awards in the Northwest region for kitchen, bath and whole house projects.

Neil Kelly Co., a design and build remodeling company based in Portland, received awards for three kitchen projects in different budgets: $60,001 to $100,000, $100,001 to $150,000, and over $150,000. The company also earned recognition for a historical renovation that cost under $250,000.

Cornerstone Builders of Beaverton will take home three awards at the April 20 ceremony, for a kitchen that costs between $30,000 and $60,000, a residential interior remodel over $150,000, and an addition for a new master bathroom that cost less than $100,000.

In one winning project, the homeowners wanted a functional, attractive and timeless style that wouldn't look dated in a decade. Cornerstone Builders' design crew eyed an existing bump-out addition in the back of the house and had it removed to create a new space with well-placed windows that draw in natural light and frame forested views.

The new master bathroom has a soaking tub with a classic claw foot and the walk-in shower has Carrera marble.

A modern convenience: There's an espresso machine in the pull-out linen closet.

An extreme splurge: To avoid having the house's temperature being just right for one person but too cold or hot for someone else, each room has an individual heating and cooling system.

Other 2018 CotY Northwest regional winners include Craftsman Design & Renovation of Portland. The company received a regional award for a bathroom improvement that cost between $75,001 and $100,000, a basement project that was more than $100,000 and an entire house remodel that cost between $250,000 and $500,000.

Tom Miller Remodeling of Portland was honored for an entire house that cost under $250,000.

An impartial panel of industry experts judged the entries based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation and degree of difficulty. Regional winners will learn if they received a national award at the April 20 ceremony in Charlotte, North Carolina.
