BROOMFIELD, CO -- The average U.S. suburban yard uses about 70,000 gallons of water for irrigating. Xeriscape "water-wise" landscaping yards can get that number down by 90 percent to 7,000 gallons or less, according to Resource Central.
Want to find out more? The City of Broomfield will offer a free class "Designing a Xeriscape Yard" on Saturday, Mar. 10, offered by Broomfield's Park Services and Environmental Services Divisions.
The goal of the class is to help you prepare a xeriscape landscape design for your own yard.
The class will cover the landscape designer's "7 Principles of Xeriscape," soil amendments, proper irrigation, and the use of appropriate plants, including new Xeriscape plants for 2018.
Low-water-use landscape ideas to reduce turf areas, create usable spaces, and enhance visual appeal of your yard will be introduced. Participants have a chance to win a rain barrel.
The free class takes place from 9-11:30 a.m. at George Di Ciero City and County Building, 1 DesCombes Drive
