On a charming brick-lined street in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, the Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa has completed a multimillion-dollar redesign. Located at 1600 King Street, the $2.51 million renovation is the first true update the hotel since it opened in 2009.
With help from D.C.-based design firm MONOGRAM at BBGM, all 107 guestrooms and 16 suites now offer a color scheme of calm purples, copper, grays, blues, and greens. They also now offer a Rorschach-inspired wallcovering. To enter the bathrooms, there are oversized barn doors made of opaque glass. Inside, guests will find gray stone vanities and, in select bathrooms, claw foot bathtubs and rainfall showers. Meanwhile, in the hallways, there is colorfully patterned carpeting, heritage-inspired wall detailing, and 3-D artworks.
“There is definitely a conscious effort to stay cool and hip and approachable,” said Stephane Vogel, area director of hotel operations for Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants and general manager of this location, in an interview with >Washington Business Journal.
In late 2016, BRABO, the hotel’s adjacent restaurant, doubled the size of its bar. Approximately one year ago, the 730-square-foot conference room in the front of the hotel was redone with lighter, more neutral colors. This same shift continued in the larger 1,250-square-foot ballroom. The hotel totals 5,600 square feet of meeting and event space.
Future plans involve renovating the spa, but details on this won’t be revealed until late August or September.
