Kennedy Park Playground Could Be Ready By Summer, Officials Say

Highland Park residents living in the vicinity of Kennedy Park on Clavey Road should have their long-awaited playground by summer.

The Park District of Highland Park on March 27 awarded the final two contracts for the $350,000 playground project, allowing site preparation and the installation of the play equipment and safety surfacing to begin.

Earlier uncertainties about the future use of the 6.6-acre park that is partly owned by North Shore School District 112 were cited as a reason the playground was the last to be replaced.

“The plan is to start the installation of the playground in the middle of April and complete it by Memorial Day weekend,” said Jeff Smith, assistant director of planning for the park district.
