House tours in Charleston this spring have featured historic homes and gardens, a designer showcase and island affluence.

Now suburban opulence will be on display at the Charleston Home+Design Magazine’s Daniel Island Luxury Home Tour, which benefits East Cooper Habitat for Humanity.

The tour will be 1-5 p.m. April 28.

The event, which costs $25 in advance and $30 day of (cash only), will feature eight homes. Only 400 tickets will be sold in an effort to minimize disruption to the community.

Magazine Publisher Tim Barkley says a unique feature of the tour will be the ability for tour attendees to speak directly with the builders of the homes.

“Anybody who is building or remodeling a home should think about going on this tour because it’s a great place to get good ideas,” says Barkley.

The custom builders also will answer questions one-on-one while highlighting each home's unique and high-end features.

Homes on the self-guided tour also will be hosted by select local companies, who provided many of the custom ideas. For example, Sub Zero and Wolf will have chefs on hand demonstrating some of their premium kitchen equipment and sharing cooking samples.

Attendees must stop by The Taylor Agency, 225 Seven Farms Drive, Suite 102, during tour hours Saturday to pick up the official tour map, which they must show to gain admittance to any of the homes on the tour.

Organizers request tour-goers to park only on pavement, wear flat-soled shoes and to the start the tour early. Also, the houses have no handicap accessibility.
