Spring officially arrived March 20, but it’s going to take Old Man Winter a little while to fully vacate the premises.
In the meantime, make sure your premises are warm weather-ready with these tips from Matt Zivanov, regional general manager at Reliance Home Comfort.
Air conditioners: The last thing you want on a sweltering hot day is a broken air conditioning unit. Perform a little preventative maintenance to avoid this predicament.
Window prep: Update windows to reflect the light, airy mood of the upcoming summer days. Change out thick, dark curtains with lighter fabrics to take advantage of the added daylight and brighten up the room. Do an inspection of your window screens and repair tears to keep the creepy crawlies out.
Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors: Check all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home while you’re performing your summer maintenance. A few minutes spent ensuring the batteries are full and everything’s working as it should could save you more than you know.
Air flow: Ceiling fans are a cost-effective way to promote healthy air circulation inside the home. Fans should turn counterclockwise in the summer to push cool air downwards.
Water refresh: Give your household H2O a spring cleaning. Reverse water filters can improve the taste and purity of tap water by cleaning out a variety of common contaminants such as lead, chlorine and sodium from the supply.
These units can be conveniently and discretely installed at the point of water consumption, such as the kitchen sink.
